With the economic boom, suburban migration and burgeoning middle class of the post-WWII era, America saw the rise of a dominant youth culture, centered around the recently-coined “teen-agers”. Out of this birthed a monumental musical revolution descriptively called rock ‘n’ roll. It broke all the rules, upset the elders, and gave rise to pioneering icons like Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins. But although rock ‘n’ roll would come to be regarded as the decade’s greatest gift, the shameless, heathenistic sound was not accepted by all. The ‘50s also popularized Italian singers, Paul Anka, the Everly Brothers - and so much more.
