In the second half of the 80s, a new generation of guitar-oriented bands emerged in the UK, armed with an obvious pop song sensibility and in love with a contradictory post-punk spirit and reverence for the 60s. Many of these incredible acts - all dressed in anoraks and Dr. Martens - went on to be regular Top 40 performers and set a new trend across national borders. The pinnacle was "The Stone Roses", an album that defined an entire generation.
