For starters, these 20th Anniversary compilations are anything but cohesive. Rather than starting from the beginning of the series and putting songs in chronological order, there seems to be no reason for why the track listing is the way it is. The latter half of Volume 2 is probably most offensive, jumping from Let Me Love You, to U Got It Bad, to I Want It That Way which hasnt been included on any previous NOW more on that later to Million Reasons. Knowing what we know now, its in pretty poor taste to include a Chris Brown song. The US version of NOW Thats What I Call Music! continues to celebrate its 20th anniversary in a rather underwhelming way. Generally speaking, this review refers to both volumes that have been released, since they are both of the same quality.
As far as these NOW Debut! tracks go, they are entirely unexciting selling points. While some fans may appreciate these new-to-NOW tracks by Beyonce and Taylor Swift, they have been played out for quite some time now and their inclusion is highly unnecessary - especially when these artists both have a plethora songs that have appeared on prior NOW compilations that could've been used. We are celebrating the series' 20th Anniversary, are we not? Feels strange to include songs that weren't a part of the main series to begin with.
