Gian Piero Piccioni the son of an eminent judge, soundtrack composer Piero Piccioni followed his fathers footsteps and practised as a lawyer before abandoning the legal profession to pursue a career in music. A highly skilled pianist and organist, he played regularly for friends in the Italian film world and it was director Michelangelo Antonioni who first suggested he try to compose for the big screen.
Nicola Piovani is an Italian light-classical musician, theater and film score composer, Best Original Dramatic Score Oscar for the score of the Roberto Benigni film La Vita è bella, better known to English-speaking audiences as Life Is Beautiful. After high school, Piovani enrolled at the Sapienza University of Rome, receiving his degree in piano from the Verdi Conservatory in Milan, and later studied orchestration under the Greek composer Manos Hadjidakis.
Armando Trovajoli was an Italian film composer and pianist with over 300 credits as composer and or conductor. As a child he learned to play the violin, showing a remarkable musical talent. He went on to graduate in piano and composing at Conservatory of Music of St. Celia in Rome. He became a member of orchestra Rocco Grasso, he played with Sesto Carlini's orchestra, one of the most renowned Italian jazz bands of that time.
Barbieri rose to fame during the free jazz movement and his latin jazz recordings. Born to a family of musicians, Barbieri began playing music after hearing Charlie Parkers Nows the Time. Influenced by John Coltrane's late recordings as well as those from saxophonists Albert Ayler and Pharoah Sanders, Barbieri developed his trademark warm and gritty sound.
